People enjoy cheesy love stories, be it rom-com movies, romance novels, or something else. Some real love stories have been remembered by people for many years because of their beautiful and touching stories.
Some love stories are worth sharing. Therefore, today in this blog, we shall explore some of the most historic and beautiful love stories.
Love Stories That Are Still Remembered
1. Sita & Ram
One of India’s most beloved love stories is of Sita & Ram from the 1960s. The story is about an Indian army officer Lieutenant Ram Prakash Roperia, also known as Ram.
Ram was born an orphan and joined the army to serve the country. In a radio interview, he mentioned he never received any letters, as he had no family. This made the interviewer come up with an idea, she asked the audience to write letters to Ram as if family members.
Not soon after, Ram received letters from all over India. He happily responded to all of them. However, there was one letter that left him curious as it had no return address.
In that letter, a woman flirtatiously addressed herself as his wife, which made Ram curious. This led him to be in search of his presumed wife who addressed herself as Sita in her letters.
Sita would often leave hints in her letters to help Ram find her. His search was successful the day he found her on a train to Hyderabad on the way to a magic show. Eventually, he pursued her and they fell in love.
However, like every story, theirs had a twist. Sita hid her identity as a princess. Moreover, her family was against her marriage to a commoner. Whereas, Ram had no idea about her true identity.
Just before the princess was about to reveal her identity to Ram, Ram shared that he had to go on a secret military mission. Due to this, Sita decides to wait till he gets back to share her identity.
However, during the mission, The Pakistani army captured Ram along with a fellow soldier named Vishnu. while saving a young girl from a fire.
Upon request from the Indian embassy, the Pakistan army decided to let go of one soldier. To decide which soldier should they release, the Pakistani army asked them to reveal the coordinates and the army secrets. Ram refused to do so as he was loyal to his country. However, Vishnu who feared for his life, shared the details and the Pakistani army sent him back to India.
Pakistan court sentenced Ram to death. However, the father of the little girl whom Ram saved asked him if he could do anything for him in return, Ram requested him to deliver a letter to Sita.
Based on Vishnu’s leaked coordinates, Pakistan killed more than 30 soldiers in India. This pressured the Indian army to establish Ram as a traitor who they believed shared the coordinates.
On the other hand, Ram’s letter was never delivered due to an issue with the address. Due to this, he was declared a traitor by his country.
Nonetheless, 20 years later in 1985, a Pakistani girl named Afreen Ali burnt down a car of an Indian philanthropist. She had two options, either to apologise or to pay a hefty fine. Afreen had a lot of hatred towards India due to which she refused to apologise to an Indian man. Hence, she decided to fly back to her hometown in Karachi Pakistan, to request the money from her grandfather.
On her arrival, she found out that her Grandfather was no longer alive, and to inherit his property, she had to deliver a letter to India personally. There she began her search for Sita in Noorjahan palace, Hyderabad, but it turned out to be a dead end.
After many difficulties, she finds the address of Noor Jaha who lived with a new identity as Sita Mahalaxmi. Afreen then gives that letter to Sita and soon the truth comes out. Their story made the headlines and Ram received a medal for his bravery and patriotism.
Meanwhile, Afreen also finds out that the little girl Ram had saved was none other than herself. Hence, she apologised to Sita as she blamed herself for Ram’s demise.
The patience of Sita Mahalaxmi who had to wait for 20 years without any communication, has touched a lot of people. Their story set a great example that love has no bounds.
2. Vikram Batra & Dimple Cheema
The Story of Vikram Batra and Dimple Cheema is from the Kargil War in 1999. They both met in college while pursuing an MA in English. During their college, Vikram left and joined the army. Whereas, Dimple’s father disapproved of their relationship. In response to her father’s disapproval, she said “If I get married, it will only be to Vikram, or I will not marry anyone else”.
In the beginning, Vikram Batra worked in the Merchant Navy. Nonetheless, just 3 days earlier he asked his parents if they needed money. To which his mom responded that with God’s grace, they had enough. That’s when he told them that he originally wanted to join the Army because he wanted to make a difference.
During the Kargil War, the Pakistan army captured points through which they were attacking soldiers. The army was assigned the task of attacking the enemy and regaining the point. The mission was successful.
Once the Indian army recaptured the points, they received an order to take a rest. However, Vikram wanted to actively take part to end the war. Sadly, during his last mission, he was martyred.
Vikram Batra often said, “I’ll either come waving our tricolour flag, or come wrapped in it, but I’ll come for sure”. After his demise, Dimple Cheema never married anyone else. Both Vikram’s and Dimple’s families asked her to move on as she had her whole life ahead of her. However, she refused to do so and chose to live with the memories of him.

3. John F. Kennedy (JFK) & Jacqueline Bouvier
One of the Golden love stories of America is from the 1950s. It was of John and Jacqueline. John F. Kennedy was the 35th president of the United States of America. Whereas, Jacqueline was a well-known journalist.
They both met at a dinner party in the early 1950s through a mutual friend. Despite having a significant age difference, they both felt an instant attraction towards each other. The couple had a 12-year age gap, Jacqueline was only 24 and John was 36 when they first met.
It is believed that Jacqueline had a feeling that JFK could break her heart. However, she believed that John was worth the pain. John on the other hand was popularly a “ladies man”. He looked at Jacqueline as a challenge, and he was famous for loving challenges. They both eventually started dating. Within a few years, the couple tied to knot in 1953.
The couple were quite compatible because of their shared interests. However, their marriage was quite difficult. After marriage, Jacqueline quit her job to support her husband. Meanwhile, she would often write letters to her husband which revealed a lot about their relationship.
In her letters, she talked about how her husband was atypical and she was invaluable to him. Moreover, she also wrote that contrary to the common that a wife and husband should not separate, they were better when they were apart.
JFK had many affairs which further put a strain on their relationship. During one of Jacqueline’s pregnancies, she had a stillborn. During that difficult time, her husband was not there to support her.
Despite facing the difficulties, she was a devoted and loving wife knowing his alleged affairs, she looked the other way, as was the common practice in those times.
Despite John’s affairs, John would always go back to Jackie as he loved her in his way. On a drive, John was assassinated during which, Jacqueline was beside him. On the way to the hospital, she kept calling out her husband’s name and told him that she loved him.
Jacquline’s clothes had blood stains from her late husband. However, she refused to change that attire the whole day, even while meeting with the Vice President. When asked the reason she stated, “Let them see what they have done”.
While in today’s world, infidelity often causes relationships to break, Jacquline’s love and dedication as a wife have truly touched people.
